Dual-layer catalyst layers for increased proton exchange membrane fuel cell performance

نویسندگان

چکیده

The use of a dual-layer cathode catalyst layer improves the performance proton exchange membrane fuel cells. To generate single and layers between gas diffusion media electrolyte, two commercial carbon-supported platinum catalysts with either high microporosity carbon (Ketjen Black EC-300J) or low porosity (XC-72 Vulcan carbon) are utilized. We discovered that boost maximum power cells regardless directionality, surface area at electrolyte interface. At 25% relative humidity, condition generally inhibits cell performance, 20% is realized when using CLs. electrochemical impedance spectroscopy results indicate cathodes aid in water management due to lower kinetic activity losses Pt improved hydration electrolyte.

The Impact of Wettability on Effective Properties of Cathode Catalyst Layer in a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell

The produced liquid water in cathode catalyst layer (CCL) has significant effect on the operation of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). To investigate this effect, the transport of oxygen in CCL in the presence of immiscible liquid water is studied applying a two-dimensional pore scale model. The CCL was reconstructed as an agglomerated system. To explore the wettability effects, diffe...

Stimulated-healing of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell Catalyst

Platinum nanoparticles, which are used as catalysts in Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC), tend to degrade after long-term operation. We discriminate the following mechanisms of the degradation: poisoning, migration and coalescence, dissolution, and electrochemical Ostwald ripening. There are two ways to tackle this problem. The first option involves formulation of durable catalyst, wh...

Dynamic investigation of hydrocarbon proton exchange membrane Fuel Cell

Sulfonated polyether ether ketone (SPEEK) is categorized in a nonfluorinated aromatic hydrocarbon proton exchange membrane (PEM) group and considered as a suitable substitute for common per-fluorinated membranes, such as Nafion, due to wider operating temperature, less feed gas crossover, and lower cost. Since modeling results in a better understanding of a phenomenon, in this study a dynamic o...

An analytic model of membrane humidifier for proton exchange membrane fuel cell

An essential requirement for an operating PEM fuel cell is providing proper water content in the membrane. To avoid water flooding an appropriate water balance is required. Here, an analytic model of a planar membrane humidifier for PEM fuel cell is proposed where the effect of dimensional parameters includes membrane thickness, membrane area and channel hydraulic diameter are investigated. A N...
